We
have a unique view of the industry here. Debt
collectors write and call us daily trying to get
us to see their side of the issue. Consumers
report their contact with abusive collectors.
Attorneys write in seeking tips, information or
sharing a weakness discovered against debt
buyers.
Our fax machine
is flooded each morning with suspicious
affidavits where collectors have produced
artificial so-called proof of debt. We are in
constant contact daily with the biggest players
on both sides of the games. We get
depositions, pleadings and legal briefs from
court cases throughout the United States. We
truly see it all.
But nothing
astounds us more than a call or email from a
consumer who in the first minutes of first
contact from a strange voice is willing to empty
out their bank account instantly to save face or
prevent the situation from escalating.
And, these same
people – 9 times out of 10, would say a loud and
resounding NO in response to calls for cash from
family members. It’s ironic. But remember this
simple rule when a stranger calls:
NEVER EVER GIVE
your personal or banking information to someone
over the phone. Get all agreements in writing
BEFORE you act. |
