Giove law Office Exposed is the name we have used for several years to highlight what we believe to be criminal and illegal activity in Western New York under the guise of debt collection. While we have tried to expose the rent-a-lawyer theme developed by Douglas MacKinnon, greater chicanery was uncovered by the NY AG and several reporters in the national media. Lawsuits from groups that have given money to Giove and friends revealed the money was not used as intended, and twenty-something million has disappeared without any accounting. Check out these pages to find out which of these firms you should not deal with until you know the amount they are requesting/demanding/extorting is legitimate.
UniStates - or uni-snakes - as consumer attorneys have dubbed them, is the latest veil of camouflage over the MacKinnon empire. Once operating under the name Account Management Services (see tab), then changing to First American Investment Co, LLC (tab), now the blanket of confusion is called UniStates, which for a brief period was United States Credit Agency until some noisy attorneys threatened to bring the group up on Federal charges. Unistates, LLC is the compromise.
Of all the debt collection operations out there, MacKinnon’s is unique in its structure. We’re betting even he isn’t sure how this corporate web of deceit is really held together. We do know that Doug is quite the salesman, conning young unsuspecting attorneys into his dangerous lair and using their licenses to collect debts. He inspires fierce loyalty among those he entices, but when the coin flips, the hatred and willingness to drop him in the grease is equally passionate. We have had more whistle-blowers come from the MacKinnon operation than the top nine second places - combined.
The operations portion of the MacKinnon empire buys old, mostly out of statute debts, then puts his in-house operation to work to manufacture the documents needed to intimidate consumers. There are literally thousands of potential perjury charges hanging over the heads of people like Robert VanDeMark, AnneMarie Steward, Amy Oatmeyer and others. The operation has its own skip-tracers, and a group called Legal Servicing owned by MacKinnon and partners does the service work.
