2007 We have been receiving calls from this number, 1-800-835-8985, for approximately 3 months. When we would answer, there was a recorded msg saying that Jacob Weinstein has been trying for quite some time to reach us at this number and for us to please call back as soon as possible. Finally, today I answered the phone when they called and was able to speak with "Jacob Weinstein", who then proceeded to be rude with me even after I explained to him that the name of the person they are trying to reach does not live at my address and has never lived at my address. He informed me that the person in question gave this number as a contact number and he cannot remove it without their permission?!?!? HE THEN HUNG UP ON ME AT THAT TIME....I called the number back and spoke with Michelle Morgan, who informed me that "Jacob Weinstein" was in court today even after I told her that he was supposedly just speaking with me not 30 seconds prior to me calling her! She kind of backtracked and then also got rude with me about getting my number removed from their contact list. She did say she would have it removed after I complained for a few more minutes, but I don't believe her for one second. I have filed a complaint with the FTC today and I hope they get fined or something. These companies need stopped immediately due to the intrusion of privacy they are incurring on innocent, law-abiding citizens across the country. THANKS!
2007 I was sent a letter from Commonwealth Financial on Jan. 07'. Apparently, a debt that was suppose to be removed on my credit report back in 04'(trauner, cohen and thomas) was sold to Unifund and then to commonwealth in Jan. 07'. I called the credit card company listed on the statement for commonwealth first. They had no info. ( no affidavit, statements, ect...)I then called commonwealth NCC. The lady I spoke with told me I had called two days ago and that I was wasting my time calling again. She said it takes 90 days for them to get any info. and that they had ordered the info. in march. They bought the account. you would think they would have all the paperwork they needed on it by now. I told them I would continue to call to request my info. because it was my right to do so. I then got hung up on. I will be sending a debt verification letter. How do I go about getting rid of these guys for good? I have worked hard at paying off my REAL debts. I don't think they will be able to give me any info. because I never had this account. They say I owe them $6000.
2007 I too have also had the misfortune of dealing with the deceiving antics of this agency. I would get prerecorded calls from "Jacob Weinstein" and "Laura Ashcroft" who would tell me that they have been trying to contact me for some time and that I should call the number they leave. They NEVER identify where they are really calling from. How can they get away with this? This is a very deceitful practice. They are also calling my private, unpublished phone number, which I pay for. The latest laugh is when they sent me pre made payment coupons to use and send with a check to them. I don't think so!!!
I have received extremely annoying phone calls since the first part of 2005 from Northeast Credit Collections who also operate as Commonwealth Financial Systems out of Scranton, PA. When they first began to call my home I informed them that I was not in a position to settle that debt at the time and I chose to deal with the originator of the debt. After continuing to receive these annoying and constant phone calls that began to escalate in their demands and frequency, I sent a "cease communication" letter to Northeast Credit Collections, as suggested on Bud Hibbs website. The letter was sent via certified mail. The letter was signed for and calls ceased for a few months. They have begun again with a vengeance in the past two or three months. Phone calls start as early as 8am and continue throughout the day and into the night, even on weekends. I have been yelled and screamed at. When I ask who they are they have lied and said they were with the originator of the loan. When I pressed them for more information I was yelled at and screamed at some more. They finally admitted they were not with who they first said they were but with Northeast Credit Collections.
The phone number to Northeast was showing up on my caller ID in the beginning and now they have begun to call from "unknown" numbers. I feel as though these men who are behaving like "thugs" or "loan sharks" are capable of offering me bodily harm as they act as though they have a personal vendetta against me. I have filed a complaint via email with the FTC very recently but I feel that this "terror campaign" is going to continue. I truly feel threatened for my life and don't know what to do. I have told my family that if something happens to me, to please have these individuals thoroughly investigated as I have no enemies and do not associate with individuals who engage in any type of illegal activities. I am disabled and on a very, very limited income. I am involved in rehabilitation and hope that someday I will be able to return to the workforce
