Bud Says                         Consumer Comments Below

This train wreck of a Collect America (CACV & CACH) franchise keeps on despite the constant revolving door of attorneys willing to lend their licenses to owner James O. Wooley in exchange for a piece of the action. In the past few years, we have counted six attorneys involved with this organization, none of which has ever made it successfully. Owner Jim Wooley has a reputation for being a tyrant and a boozer, based on information from employees who have worked there. Female employees may be uncomfortable in his presence based on assertions that he may run his mouth in the wrong direction.

Like most junk debt collectors, this franchise is geared at taking as much money from the consumer as possible, with the least amount of resistance. The previous attorneys who allowed their law licenses to be used as a pretense to collect purchased debts had little or no litigation experience. The same can be said for the present license holder, who I am sure will not be there this time next year. If debt collectors are contacting you in or out of Texas as the ‘Law Office of Richard E. Clark’ be prepared for threats, lies, harassment, and other violations of state and federal law. They have always acted this way in the past and Clark’s name on the door is no reason to think that Wooley has changed the way he allows his debt collectors to operate.

CAUTION: I recommend you NEVER disclose your bank account or credit card information to a debt collector, as you risk them emptying your account, or maxing out your credit card. If you feel they are reporting on your credit bureau files in error or need assistance in dealing with them, email  the details w/your location.  Assistance and referral to a consumer legal specialist may be available.
