November 2008 My husband knew that he owed them money for Penn Foster, and had made plans with one of their reps to have the cancellation fee paid on the first Friday of November. A bank issue made us have to call back and change it to the following Friday, which he was told was not a problem. The Thursday before the payment was to be taken, my mother-in-law got a phone call from a man claiming to be a lawyer for ACC. Mom asked why he was calling and he told her everything about his debt, and that she was to give them all info she had on my husband or they would both be arrested, which scared her to death and left her crying. My husband called this guy back, furiously telling him to check his own records and see that this was in the midst of being dealt with. The man insisted that he had not made any plans and that there was a court date set. After being yelled at 3 more times, he finally put hubby on hold and called a rep, who confirmed that there was a payment in place for the next morning. The man apologized for messing up, then confessed that he knew what he said to my mother-in-law was illegal. We called The FTC on them this morning.
August 2008 My son had to deal with these people a couple of months ago. Sent at least three cease and desist letters along with asking for validation/verification of the debt but to no avail. That was at least three months ago, have not heard from them since. I know that you are not supposed to wallow in some one else's misery, and I'm not, but when I read in the last post about drug use at this place increasing and payroll bouncing, and the company getting slammed with judgments and lawsuits weekly, that only goes to show that if you lie, cheat and steal in order to fill your own coiffures...than you are going to pay big time in more than just money. Ill-gotten goods is the devils gain and you have the devil himself to pay when you inflict pain and suffering on others. "Indeed, they sow the wind, and reap the whirlwind." Hosea, Ch8, v7.
August 2008 I just recently got an alert from my free credit report telling me a potentially negative item has been posted to my account. It is from ACC for $604. I have never been contacted by this company via phone or mail, it just showed up on my credit report. I started researching this company because there was no address or phone number listed, only the name. That's when I came across all of these websites talking about them and then this one. I immediately disputed this claim on my credit report and am waiting on a response. Wow, I can't believe that people can just post whatever they want to your credit. I have no idea where they got the $604 and have never heard of Penn Foster, the company they say has the debt. I am hoping it all gets resolved or I will be another victim of their so called business.
July 2008 ACC drug use among collectors is out of control. They are desperate to make money so expect a lot of threats. Conflitti is almost out of money, trying to grab anything he can. Joyce has used up all her credit lines, even took out mortgages on property to make payroll and buy some portfolio's. They are being sued several times a week, many judgments piling up. Checks have been bounced, hard to keep any decent collectors. Conflitti is living on pills, coffee and booze. Keep the pressure on them, they are a mess.
July 2008 Thanks very much for the information on this sleazy debt collector. After weeks of constant threats and harassment we took your advice, began recording their calls, then contacted the NACA lawyer you recommended. Today I picked up my check and am happy to say that the amount was more than I thought they would ever pay. The attorney told me they have paid out tens of thousands for their debt collection violations. Your site showed me how to do it, I want to tell you and your readers that suing them is a good idea, especially when you have a tape of their illegal activity. God Bless you, Bud Hibbs!
July 2008 I am in total shock after reading this. I received a letter from this company as well a while ago. the original creditor is Penn Foster. the other day i received a phone call from a guy stating he was calling from ACC, but my caller id said am mortgage brokers. I was confused, well he was crazy. He threatened me by saying that he was going to send the sheriff to my house to collect the debt. I had to laugh at his crazy attempts to try and collect this debt. by the way, penn foster is a scam as well. they screwed me over big time
May 2008 Just wanted to let folks know that I'm in the process of suing ACC right now! I've read these comments and plenty of your cases are even stronger than mine. Please don't fall for their scam. Know your rights and take them to court!
May 2008 I just started receiving voice mails on my home phone from this number 866-760-6205 AND 800-737-9140. Are they from the same company. They never tell me what this is about and I do not have any old or bad debt that I am aware of. What should I do to prevent this from spiraling out of control? I have read others comments and see the threats they have been receiving at their jobs and relatives homes. I'd like to stop this in its tracks.
April 2008 I received a call at my place of employment from Jason - American Credit Collections regarding an account I do not deny I owe. However, when I asked him not to call me at work - and refusing to take the next dozen calls in less than 15 minutes from Jason - he proceeded to tell my receptionist that I was ignorant and finally that I was a b***h for not taking his calls. My boss called and asked for a supervisor and spoke with a Walter Case - who claimed to be Jason's supervisor. She was assured that Jason would not call me at work again, however, shortly later SHE received an e-mail at her business account stating that I had a debt that needed to be paid NOW. As I mentioned - I never denied I owed the money. The next day I called and asked for an address to mail a payment and after arguing with the lady about how they "prefer" to take payment over the phone - I finally have a PO box to mail payment. I really hope Penn Foster (my original debtor) realizes how they treat people. Not all people who get into debt are just out to avoid getting out of it!!
2007 Got a letter from ACC, LCC today, telling me that I have 30 days to make a payment on my debt of $45.68 or "further collection efforts will commence". There's not a single note in the letter that tells me who the original creditor is,only a note at them bottom that tells me I must notify their office in 30 days to obtain the original creditor information. (Ohh, fax us that letter please. That sounds like a violation.)
2007 This unlicensed debt collector is reporting a debt they supposedly purchase from another junk debt buyer that purchased it from another that purchased it from another. They have more than doubled the charge off amount and have re-aged the debt. I sent a dispute and they have failed to respond with any validation, failed to notate the trade line as in dispute, and have made no attempt to contact me. They simply updated the trade line with the Credit Reporting Agencies for a greater amount and in a way to further poison my credit. They are not licensed in my state and the CRA refuse to delete. I'd like to sue them for multiple violations, but how do you collect when they have no license or bond in my state?
2007 This scam is trying to collect on a bogus debt from Education Direct, 925 Oak Street, Scranton, Pa. 18515 that has been out of business for months if not years now. I have a Java Programmer Diploma from them and have not requested anymore service. They have since been (Education Direct) bought by Penn Foster so, conveniently, there is no record of any debt though they are trying to scam me out of $262.50
2007 I received a letter from American
Credit & Collections LLC today...the letter was addressed to
my maiden name...I couldn't believe what I saw when I opened
it...it said I owed $23,400.63...I don't even know what it
is for! The only thing I think it could be is an old
Citibank MC account that I allowed an old boyfriend to use 7
or 8 years ago when his business was in trouble. He
eventually filed bankruptcy, but promised he would pay it
off, which he didn't. I moved out-of-state for my job. I
just couldn't afford to pay his debt. I never even received
anything from Citibank after I moved...well, I shouldn't say
that I didn't pay it because the charge off went on my
credit and I had to pay almost 13% interest for a new
car...in addition, I couldn't get any new credit for 7
years. The letter said they have found the following assets:
-Your place of employment -Your checking/savings
account -Automobile and property belonging to you
Pretty scary stuff! The original debt was less than $5k!
Since the statute of limitations is over and the debt is at
least 7 years old, I think I am going to try to ignore and
pray! Just wanted to share because I googled their name and
found this website.
2007 I just received a letter from this company informing me that I owe them...$107000 and that I have 15 days to pay! I don't recall getting the "30 days to dispute" letter for this "debt", it would have made an impression.
2007 I received the first letter from
Jason Gordon of American Credit Collections, P.O. Box 264,
Taylor, PA 18517-0264, and dated 6/8/2007 stating that they
are attempting to collect a debt in the amount of $9,038.82
which I do not believe I owe. He threaten me that their
staff is reviewing this contract, verifying my employment,
if any seeking to locate assets from which I might satisfy
this debt, and taking other appropriate steps toward
preparing my file for litigation. And if I wish to settle
this debt without litigating, I should contact their office
immediate to settle this alleged debt.
I was a victim of identity theft and it took me years to
legally remove the errors off my credit reports from all 3
credit bureaus. However, ever now and then I’d receive
collection letters from companies attempting to collect
these debts I believe do not belong to me. I immediately
responded this letter I received from this company and
dispute the charges. I stated in my disputed letter dated
6/15/2007 via certified mail that since I’ve disputed this
debt in writing within 30 days of receipt of their notice,
they must obtain verification of the debt or copy of the
judgment against me and mail these items to me. They can not
add interest or fees except those allowed by the original
contract or state law. And I further stated in my letter
that if they attempt to collect this debt without validating
it violates the FDCPA. The letter I sent via certified mail
to American Credit Collections was received on 6/25/2007,
according to my return receipt from the US Postal Office.
Last week, I received a letter again from Jason Gordon of
American Credit collections dated 7/23/2007. This letter
stated that I now owe $9,138.38; it is $99.56 more than the
amount stated on the original letter. In his letter Mr.
Gordon stated that quote:
“Are you aware that your debt can be litigated and a
judgment can be obtained against you? We are now prepared to
retain legal counsel with our recommendation that the
litigation should be filed.
You must contact us at American Credit & Collection, LLC,
(866) 760-6205, to discuss the matter, or you may send your
payment in full”
I believe it is illegal for debt collection companies to
collect debt without validation, especially I have already
dispute the charge to them in writing within 30 days. I did
not receive any validation from this company with regard to
the alleged debt, and further more, this company had
apparently added interests to the original debt amount,
which I believe is in violation of the FDCPA. I believe
since I have disputed this debt, therefore, until this
company can properly validate this alleged debt, this debt
is inaccurate. I believe this collection was sent in error,
or this company has purchased this debt from other
collection companies as “junk debt” that can not properly
validate the debt from the original creditor.
Through my research on the Internet, I believe similar
complaints has been made against this debt collection
company, and one law suit has been filed against this
company in PA,
Springer v. American Credit Collections, LLC
Case Number: 2:2007cv01576
Court: Pennsylvania Eastern District Court
County: Montgomery
Presiding Judge: HONORABLE CYNTHIA M. RUFE
Cause: 15:1692 Fair Debt Collection Act
2007 I wrote before about the letter I
received. I had been generous in stating that they were
asking for double my original debt. They're actually
demanding more than triple. The original debt was 3k, they
are now looking for 10,539.04. The new letter states the
following: Are you aware that your debt can be litigated and
a judgment can be obtained against you? We are now prepared
to retain legal counsel with our recommendation that the
litigation should be filed. You must contact us at once at
American Credit & Collection, LLC, (866)760-6205, to discuss
the matter, or you may send your payment in full.
It should be mentioned that they bought this debt from
Shakina who had previously been attempting to collect it in
their usual manner.
2007 I was stupid enough to fall for this
idiot, and gave my debit card number, and yes, he emptied my
checking account in less than two weeks. I cancelled the
debit card as soon as I found out and will now be seeking
legal advice.
This is on an old Chase account that my wife has. I would
rather this SOB take me to court and try to get some money
than deal with them.

2007 I received a letter from this
organization on a very old Providian account, their letter
states: "Are you aware that your debt can be litigated and a
judgment can be obtained against you? We are now prepared to
retain legal counsel with our recommendation that the
litigation should be filed."
They seem self assured they can sue and win. The NACA
attorney you recommended said differently, thanks for the
info. Their collectors are arrogant, very unprofessional,
all they do is make threats. I'm going to go after them,
maybe even make some money from them. Thanks for the great
information, your site is the best on the internet.
2007 Believe it or not I got the EXACT SAME LETTER as the person below, on an old Providian account I haven't had in over Nine years. The only difference was the name and extension of the "contact person," Christopher Allen ext 211 (866) 760-6205 But here's the real big thing about this account they're trying to collect on. I paid it off and closed it back in 1998. Providian screwed up my payment and it took over a year to get them to correctly credit my account. And if My memory is correct, the statute of limitations on collecting on an outstanding account is seven years. So isn't there a penalty for this? If it's showing up on your credit, you should visit myfaircredit.com
2007 I received a threatening letter in
the mail today. They are stating I owe DOUBLE my original
outstanding balance due to "interest". The letter states the
following:
This letter is to inform you that we are the
assignee/owner of your Credit Card Debt, and further, to
inform you that it is our intention to take aggressive legal
action to collect the referenced debt.
We would further notify you that you may wish to consult an
attorney. We do no represent you, nor do we purport to give
you legal advice.
Our staff is reviewing your contract, verifying your
employment, if any seeking to locate assets from which you
might satisfy this debt, and taking other appropriate steps
toward preparing your file for litigation. If a lawsuit is
filed against you and a Judgment is obtained; you will be
responsible for court costs in addition to the amounts
mentioned hereinbefore. Interest will continue to accrue at
the contract rate. Post-judgment, our office will employ all
lawful means to collect the judgment including (but not
limited to) attaching your bank accounts, seizing your
personal property.
If you wish to settle this debt without litigation, we
strongly urge you to contact our office immediately to
ascertain whether other suitable terms may be worked out.
Tony Antuzzi ext 214 (866) 760-6205 *and of course they request credit
card information in the letter. As if I'm that stupid.
