August 2008 they put a collection account on my credit bureau reports without even contacting me with the legally required notice. I was not able to even dispute the debt they just posted it on my credit report. I am filing complaints with the ACA and California Association of Collectors, and the DOC in California.
August 2008 AIS services purchased an old debt 3 years after it had been PAID IN FULL. How on earth can a company purchase a debt and list it on your credit report that has been paid? We found it on my husband's credit report after ordering our annual free credit reports this spring. I collected receipts and proof that this debt had been paid. It was sold to AIS in California by a collection company in Georgia (who acknowledged we had paid them back in 2004!), but they sold it to AIS anyway. How illegal is that? Very! When I asked AIS for a letter stating that they had taken it off of our credit report and a chain of title to see when they bought it and from whom, etc., they would not answer me, would not send me any information.
