“Our mission is to drive greater value through strategic customer
interactions.”
-Encore Receivable Management, Inc
Nice slogan if you are a car manufacturer or perhaps Wal-Mart, but a DEBT
COLLECTOR?
Encore is now one of those MEGA big debt collection agencies with a zillion
accounts and thousands of employees all across the globe. I never paid much
attention until I recently placed a call to them and encountered a call
center in the Philippines, which gave me a chill and cause for alarm.
Whenever these mega-conglomerates get so big or so cheap that they have to
outsource their collections, it is time for all of us to voice our concerns.
The ONLY people benefiting by this are Encore CEO Alan Lee Summerlin and
Convergys President, Jack C. Freker, who don’t have to pay American wages
and benefits to those working for them outside the U.S. My concern with
Encore and all of these debt collection free loaders is they are putting
millions of American consumers at risk with their outsourcing. Places such
as the Philippines, India, Pakistan and others are NOT where you want your
name, address, social security number and a LOT more personal information
floating around. All of these HEAD DEBT COLLECTORS will sit and tell you
your information is safe, that you have nothing to worry about but they
cannot guarantee your information will not fall into the wrong hands. Not to
mention the utter ignorance of anyone being asked a question that is not
contained in their workplace script.
The
private company with about 1,100 employees was founded by Alan Lee Summerlin
(president and CEO) and eight others, including Mark Strauss (senior vice
president) and Steve Panik. Greg Ferrall is another owner. In May 2004 it
was sold to a public company called Convergys Corporation based in
Cincinnati, Ohio.
Convergys employs more than 55,000 people in 51 customer contact centers and
in our data centers and other offices in the United States, Canada, Latin
America, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia. Convergys is on the net at
www.convergys.com and has world headquarters in Cincinnati.
Encore and Convergys make money off American consumers by collecting debts.
They are debt collectors as defined by law and as such, are subject to the
laws enacted to regulate their industry, the Fair Debt Collection Practices
Act (FDCPA). You have the right to dispute the validity of ANYTHING they are
attempting to collect, by making demand for all validation that supports
their claim. I urge you to utilize this law in the manner it was intended.
You also have the right to dispute the validity of anything they place on
your credit bureau reports.
CAUTION:
I recommend you
NEVER
disclose your bank account or credit card information to a debt collector, as you
risk them emptying your account, or maxing out your
credit card. If you feel they are reporting on your
credit bureau files in error or need assistance in
dealing with them, email the details
w/your
location. Assistance and referral to a consumer
legal specialist may be available.
