April 2009  I have been going through unbelievable hell with this company. I had a Capital One Visa account with a small credit limit of 300.00. I charged approximately 280.00 on the card.

Due to divorce and job loss, I stopped paying all my credit cards including this one. The last payments I made were back in 2006. What a horrible mistake.

My 280.00 balance ballooned to 647.00 with over the limit fees and late charges. Back in October I got a letter from BHLM that they were taking me to small claims court.

I called them and asked for a settlement of 50 cents on the dollar. The woman asked where I worked and I told her. I never heard another word.

I foolishly forgot about it and did not go to court. They won a judgment against me and sent me another court date for garnishment proceedings.

I am currently unemployed and I did not want to go to court to divulge information, so I did not show, but I sent them a letter and 50% of the amount owed (500.00) and said in the letter that cashing this money order means my debt is paid and no more litigation will take place.

Yeah right. The lowlife blood suckers mailed my original letter back to me with the money order un-cashed! They refused to take the 50% settlement offer!

I believe in paying what I charged and even a bit over for being late, but I refuse to pay that whole amount, because it's a lot of trumped up fees. I'm sure they bought that debt for pennies on the dollar, but they want to fleece me to death.

I'm waiting for legal advice on what to do next. I can't believe all this BS is happening over a 300 limit credit card.

This company is the worst of the worst, they talk to you like garbage and use a lot of tactics to get things from you. BEWARE if you hear from them. DO NOT GIVE THEM ANY INFORMATION, AS THEY USE EVERYTHING THEY CAN AGAINST YOU.

This BHLM contacted me re: a debt and threatened to garnish my wages unless I paid in full. The lady I spoke to from BHLM, Carolyn, told me the only way I could stop the garnishment from proceeding was to pay via Western Union Quik Collect as a check by phone could take up to 30 days to clear and process. So, I paid via Western Union  and paid an extra $44 for the Western Union fee. I called Carolyn as instructed and gave her the control number I received from Western Union and she told me she would fax a letter to my employer that day, to inform them my debt was paid in full. So, today I get paid and they have garnished my wages. I spoke to my human resources manager and they never received a letter indicating that I paid the amount in full. I called BHLM and spoke again to Carolyn. She lied to me on the phone and said the letter was sent on Monday, so it must be my company's fault, but she never guaranteed that the garnishment would be stopped. I reminded her that is the reason I paid via Western Union because she told me that was the only way I could pay to have the garnishment stopped. However, I gave the phone to my human resource manager and Carolyn then told the manager that the letter was drafted and sent via usps mail yesterday when she had just told me it was sent via fax on Monday and my company lost it. Now I have to wait for over a month to get a refund and I'm starting to doubt that will even occur. They are very unethical people to work with when they lie right to you.

Capital One Services-  This is simply, for lack of a more appropriate term, ABSURD! I would ask if you could believe this, but I’m reasonably sure I already know the answer.  I made a dumb move, letting Resurgence Financial get away with a lawsuit that didn’t even have the correct account number let alone a bogus Affidavit. Have you ever heard of American Mediation? I have had an awful time with this mediator. I filed a BBB complaint and all of a sudden that’s all he cares about. I talked to him June 11th before going in for the Citation to Discover Assets. Believe it or not he told me he was close to a deal and once again stated I did not have to appear. Well, an injury makes a person wary of its cause. Needless to say I went in and HUH, the Lawyers never heard of him nor were they aware of any negotiations taking place. After a couple of phone calls the attorney then stated his boss was informed.
Today I get an e mail from the BBB with his response. The same day, in the mail I get another Notification from him wanting me to hire him for a Civil Suit filed against me. The same exact letter I got from him just before being served with the 1st Summons. This one I believe is Capital One Services- Attorney Blatt Hasenmiller. It was issued last month. Apparently, they were being kind, and allowing Resurgence to finish with me before they came in for their attack. Can you believe the nerve of this guy? The funny thing is he had to of known about this while I was talking with him. The letter is dated the same day I talked to him last. There is something foul about this guy. Now, keep in mind I’m not as unintelligent today as I was before coming across your site.  Last year my wife told me she had paid off the Capital One card. I didn’t ask questions at the time, I just knew she was tired of the constant phone calls. We had some extra money and intended to use it for that purpose. This is going to anger you so be prepared. When I saw the suit lingering out there, I talked to her in detail about it. They called and told her it was the Capitol One Debt. We got copies of the Check over the phone. (We discussed the foolishness of that mistake). It was made out to REDLINE. According to my credit report they had applied the money to a 14 year old Sears debt. that had to be inaccurate unless it was all interest over the years. According to my Credit Report the balance on the Capital One is outstanding. I’m only confident about one thing. I know for sure there will be no DEFAULT JUDGMENT with this one.

OK, I got sick, spent time in the hospital, lost my job and got behind on my bills. Creditors call. Letters arrive. Phone rings off the wall. Being unemployed, with finances drained, I tried to get free legal help to no avail. I wont even go into how hard it is to try to work with Household Finance! They bought my 2nd mortgage on my house - then threatened me with foreclosure. I reminded them that my 1st mortgager 'owned' my house. So, Household bought that one too! UGH! Now the calls came everyday, twice a day. Pay NOW or we are taking your house. Meanwhile I managed to find a really good job and had no problem showing that I could make substantial payments to 'catch up' my late payments. WOW, that was not a good thing to do. Household immediately took my house, sold it for next to nothing and started sending me letters that I STILL owed them a substantial amount of money. I found out too late that they could sell the house for anything they wanted to, to anyone they wanted to and I was still legally bound to the remaining debt! Bankruptcy would have been a much better choice - but my house was worth more than I owed! Anyway, I started getting calls and letters from Blatt, Hasenmiller, Leibsker & Moore. Seems Household Finance felt they had gotten all they could out of me, sold my 'remaining' debt to Providian Financial and THEY hooked up with Blatt, Hasenmiller, Leibsker & Moore to collect the rest of the debt. We went to court several times, meanwhile BHLM kept calling and sending collection letters. Finally, they won and I lost and a huge garnishment order was handed down. I spent months paying my leftover debt, court costs, BHLM fees AND 9% interest on the balance EACH MONTH! A $6770 debt took 18 months and almost $9000 to pay off! THEN, they refused to send notice to my employer that the debt was paid off.

I called gateway to get the payoff amount on my computer (around $1400). I sent the amount in and never heard anything else. Several months later I checked my credit report as I always do and found I owed Gateway $389.

I called Gateway and figured out they had been sending a bill to an address I had 5 YEARS PRIOR to buying the computer! They had already sent this to collection and gave me a phone number. From there every 800 or 866 # I called gave me another # and said they could not help me. NO ONE would take my money. It eventually ended up in the law office of Blatt, Hasenmiller,Leibsker & Moore LLC. I can't get them to return a phone call.

This account was supposedly charged off almost 1 year ago and is STILL on my credit report as an unpaid bad debt. They won't take my money! I bought a car and the bank overlooked that mark on my credit given the reputation of this company. Now I am trying to buy a house and I HAVE to have in writing the day this account was charged off.

These people yelled at me, would not give me their name (I am referring to two separate calls where the customer "service" reps acted in the same manner). They denied me a supervisor and said they were noting my account to be sure I wasn't going to call back and get a supervisor. He said I was not going to go over his head and get something he said he wouldn't give me. I was hung up on in both calls.

Both were extremely hateful and rude. How do these people get paid for representing their company in this manner? I thought these calls were "monitored and recorded". Whatever! Getting the same treatment from both reps makes me wonder if Citibank doesn't ENCOURAGE this type of behavior. Now I can't buy a house for my son and because of a mistake that originated with the Gateway Credit Card Plan. I am reporting my calls to Attorney General Jay Nixon. I was appalled at the way I was treated.  I pay my bills thank you very much. This was their mistake!

Blatt, Hasenmiller, Leibsker & Moore contacted me demanding payment on behalf Wolpoff and Abramson even after my lawyer entered him self on my behalf. I never gave them consent to contact me. For the record this is a clear violation of FDCPA.

(b) COMMUNICATION WITH THIRD PARTIES. Except as provided in section 804, without the prior consent of the consumer given directly to the debt collector, or the express permission of a court of competent jurisdiction, or as reasonably necessary to effectuate a post judgment judicial remedy, a debt collector may not communicate, in connection with the collection of any debt, with any person other than a consumer, his attorney, a consumer reporting agency if otherwise permitted by law, the creditor, the attorney of the creditor, or the attorney of the debt collector.

I noticed that Blatt, Hasenmiller, Leibsker & Moore has come up in several conversations during the Agency watch list posting in the last year or so, and I was wondering why they aren't posted with in the list of Agencies to Avoid.

After conducting research on these scumbags I have found that they are part of the Wolpoff & Abramson slew of Attorneys that are used to enforce arbitration awards against consumers in the states that Wolpoff & Abramson doesn't practice law in.

Blatt, Hasenmiller, Leibsker & Moore are extremely cunning. They hide and fly under the radar. I know first hand because my attorney is knocking heads with them right now over and arbitration award that was granted to Wolpoff & Abramson on behalf of the NAF.  I say they should be added just because they are apart of the sleaze bag team of Wolpoff & Abramson.

I have dealt with this firm concerning a credit card account. I had sent them requests several times for validation which they never complied. They took the case to court and I argued that they never produce any documents of proof. They handed me a stack of credit card statements - they never provided a signed contract. The judge ruled in their favor. i have not heard from them as of yet about any payment.

Illinois   To the person in New Jersey ... Thank you .. this is exactly the type of information what I was looking for. These fools contacted my wife on her job several times, contacted her co-workers, continued to harass us even after my lawyer had entered himself as representing us. It's been 3 months now and they still haven't provided any validation of the alleged debt owed. I needed some more ammunition regarding their collection practices. Again thanks.

Yes I've heard of this company. My recently deceased Dad was paying them $100.00 per month to pay off some debt or other he wasn't sure of but that they had threatened to take him to court over. However, when I called advising them of his passing away I notated who I spoke to: the time & the date. I asked if they required a Death Certificate, further requested a summary of not only the initial reason for debt but a complete summary of payment. After being assured I would receive it-Never heard another word from them nor received the requested Items. When I contacted then later they informed me that that account had been sold to another firm, conviently they could not provide the firms name.  Blatt, Hasenmiller, Leibsker, Moore   111 West Jackson Blvd.   Chicago, IL 60604  800-837-2458 or 312-704-9378

Blatt, Hasenmiller, Leibsker & Moore   Has anyone ever heard of these collectors?  I disputed the amount and ask for validation of ledgers and accounting records of the amount they say I owe.  Now I'm waiting for a response. At this time they are saying they represent Citibank. However I'm trying to work out an amicable settlement with Citibank so I'm wondering how are they representing Citi when I’m negotiating directly with them.
